I'm fine thank you and yuu ?

Talk about “rooster sauce” you might know.

It seems many likes this sauce in this city. I always call it “chicken’s.” I know, it’s not right and sounds weird but I guess you can feel it. More accurately, I should say rooster instead of chicken. If you have meal at Asian restaurant, it would definitely be aside you on the table. You only need to recognize it has “hot” 3 letters and a rooster on its label. It should be what you want. I have run into this sauce at not Asian place but pizza shops and delis in NYC too.

“Tuong Ot Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce” This is the actual name. I never known that properly. When I was at home today and looking at sources… yes, I also own my rooster sauce. I was curious to know what fonts use on its label. And I found the post on Fonts in Use which I visit often website. I love this sauce as what to eat but also as a graphic design.

That post told me the most prominent Latin text elements are rendered in shadowed and outlined font of the Balloon family. Thank you, Nick Sherman. I thought so, too! And they told me “hot” 3 letters are rendered in Brody. Oh, I wanted to know that! But they said it hard to identify any other Chinese letters. At the end of the article they concluded “Any insight is welcome.”

Finally, an aside. I found surprising fact on the comment by Peiran Tan to that article. The company name written in serif “匯豐食品公司” are set in PMingLiu. The explanation about PMingLiu was interesting so I’m quoting. “In the West, PMingLiu has become a prominent component of what some might call the ‘Asian diaspora aesthetics.’ In East Asia, it is seen as the signature for those typographically unenlightened.” Rest of this comment is also really exciting. PMingLiu is well known as the typeface which is included Windows and Office for Mac all over the world. But, PMingLiu was copied from Shaken’s Honran Mincho, “本蘭明朝.” So it got quite weird as Chinese letters. As for other points, such as zhonggong, it means the central white area Chinese characters, many East Asian graphic designers have been thinking PMingLiu has an aesthetic malaise.

But you know, the final process of designing something is how people loving for the product. And at least, this source is aesthetically perfect so I think. Things are not simple. So happy to share this interesting story in Comic Sans.
